SOUTHERN SECTION TENNIS PLAYOFFS : Five County Teams to Play Semifinal Matches Today
Five county teams remain in contention in the Southern Section girls’ tennis playoffs that continue today with semifinal rounds.
All matches begin at 2 p.m.
One semifinal in Division II features an all-county matchup between league champions--top-seeded Laguna Beach (22-1) traveling to Edison (21-1). Laguna Beach, the Pacific Coast League winner, advanced with a 13-5 victory over Calabasas Tuesday. Edison, the Sunset League champion, defeated Diamond Bar, 9-9 (86-81 in games), in the quarterfinals.
Also playing in Division II will be Estancia (18-5), the Pacific Coast League runner-up, at second-seeded Arcadia (18-0). The Eagles beat Los Angeles Marlborough, 12-6, on Tuesday to reach today’s match.
In Division I, No. 2 Santa Barbara San Marcos (21-1) plays at No. 3 Dana Hills (20-2), which eliminated Corona del Mar, 11-7, on Tuesday.
Top-seeded Los Alamitos (21-1) is the only county team still alive in Division III after beating Corona Centennial, 14-4, in the quarterfinals. The Griffins, the Empire League champion and winner of the Division 2-A section title a year ago, play host to No. 4 Palm Desert (18-2) at Old Ranch Tennis Club in Seal Beach.
The finals in all the divisions are Tuesday at the Claremont Tennis Club.
