141 Officers, Soldiers Probed by Colombia
BOGOTA, Colombia — This nation’s public prosecutor is investigating 141 Medellin police officers, soldiers and security officers for possible involvement in kidnapings, extortions and killings, Colombian judicial sources said Wednesday.
Residents and left-wing politicians in the city have suggested that security forces are linked to some death-squad murders, but nothing has been proven.
Gunmen have murdered 34 police officers in Medellin since an elite police unit killed cocaine king Pablo Escobar’s second in command, Brance Munoz Mosquera, on Oct. 28.
