49ers’ Shooting Pleases Coach in Exhibition Win
LONG BEACH — Cal State Long Beach basketball Coach Seth Greenberg saw a lot of promise in the 49ers’ 98-91 exhibition victory over an Australian team, the Melbourne Tigers, Tuesday night. The 49ers shot 47.7% from the floor, but more important, made 25 of 31 free throws.
“I have felt all along that we are a better shooting team this year over last,” Greenberg said.
The 49ers shot 46.4% from the field last season but made only 68.7% of attempts from the line.
Senior forward Bryon Russell led the 49ers against Melbourne with 30 points and 12 rebounds. Junior guard Rod Hannibal scored 21 points and senior guard Lucious Harris added 19.
“We need to improve on our defensive rebounding,” Greenberg said.
The 49ers play host to High Five America on Wednesday in their final exhibition contest. The regular season begins Dec. 4 against the University of Tulsa at the Hawaii Tip-Off Classic in Honolulu.
