Rockies Pick Chatsworth’s Reed
Former Chatsworth High pitcher Steve Reed was selected by the Colorado Rockies in the third round of the major league expansion draft Tuesday.
Reed, who had been in the San Francisco Giants’ organization, was the 30th of 36 players taken by the Rockies. The right-hander saved 23 games for double-A Shreveport this season before being promoted to triple-A Phoenix, for which he 20 saves. Reed’s season total of 43 saves is a minor-league record.
After graduating from Chatsworth in 1984, Reed played at Pierce and Moorpark colleges then transferred to Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, Ida.
Reed, 26, was signed by the Giants as a free agent in 1988.
