PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : RAIDERS : Watching Tough for Golic

It was a pretty normal postgame sight in the Raiders’ locker room, the always-quotable Bob Golic surrounded by reporters.

But there was one glaring difference Sunday.

Golic wasn’t wearing his uniform. The 14-year veteran had been informed Saturday that he wasn’t being activated for Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks.

This time, reporters weren’t asking Golic what it had been like on the field. They were asking what it had been like on the sidelines.

Not good, Golic said.

“They (the Raiders) told me they were going other ways,” he said. “They were changing the defense, getting the younger guys in there.”

Everybody on a deep Raider defensive line is younger than Golic, 35, which seems to indicate a lot more afternoons ahead on the sidelines.

“It was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do,” Golic said. “Not being able to contribute is one thing. But standing on the sidelines and watching was really hard.”

Raider defensive lineman Anthony Smith had five sacks against the Seattle Seahawks in two games, half his season total. . . . The only Raider injured Sunday was tight end Ethan Horton, who suffered a concussion. There is no definite word yet on his availability for this week. . . . Wide receiver Sam Graddy, sidelined seven weeks because of a broken arm, is close to resuming practice.
