Nation IN BRIEF : WISCONSIN : GOP Ends Meeting to Analyze Defeat
After three days of analyzing their presidential election defeat, about 400 Republican leaders left a conclave sponsored by the GOP governors association, vowing to broaden their party’s appeal and bolster its foundations at the grass roots. But none of the speakers at the Lake Geneva, Wis., meeting had a simple answer for resolving what may be the thorniest problem shadowing the GOP’s effort to expand its ranks--the issue of abortion rights, which the party platform opposes and which has become a symbol for the broader intra-party controversy over the influence of religious conservatives.
