SANTA MONICA MOUNTAINS : Newly Completed Sections of 58-Mile Trail Dedicated
State and national park officials held a ceremony this week to dedicate newly-constructed portions of the Backbone Trail through the Santa Monica Mountains.
The ceremony near Saddle Peak south of Calabasas also honored master trail designer Ron Webster, who has directed much of the work on the trail. Officials said about 58.5 miles of trail have been built, including segments that pass through Topanga and Malibu Creek state parks.
The trail eventually will stretch 65 miles from Will Rogers State Historic Park in Pacific Palisades to Point Mugu State Park in Ventura County.
