Carl-Uwe Steeb of Germany and Marc Rosset of Switzerland scored straight-set victories in the semifinals of the Kremlin Cup at Moscow. Steeb defeated Jakob Hlasek of Switzerland, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4, before a crowd including Russian President Boris Yeltsin. Rosset used a powerful serve to beat Cedric Pioline of France, 7-6 (7-1), 6-1.
