PREP FOOTBALL ROUNDUP : St. Genevieve Snaps 23-Game Losing Streak With 20-0 Win
St. Genevieve High snapped a 23-game losing streak with a 20-0 victory over Cathedral in a Santa Fe League game Saturday night at Birmingham High.
Junior running back Omar Gutierrez rushed for 101 yards and a touchdown in 17 carries and quarterback Alex Muller completed 12 of 25 passes for 184 yards.
Matt Mirolla’s one-yard touchdown run and his two-point conversion run gave the Valiants an 8-0 lead in the second quarter.
Muller hit Jeremy Iaccino on an 80-yard pass play late in the game to cap the scoring.
St. Genevieve (1-9, 1-4 in league play), which last won in 1990, limited the Phantoms (5-5, 2-3) to 179 total yards.
