Hart Loses No. 1 Slot in Cross-Country
The Hart High boys’ and the Agoura girls’ cross-country teams have dropped to fourth and fifth, respectively, in The Harrier magazine’s latest national poll.
Hart was ranked No. 1 nationally in the magazine’s October survey and Agoura, which began the season No. 1, was listed second.
However, the Thousand Oaks boys earned their first appearance in the poll, ascending to seventh place. The Harrier magazine’s monthly poll lists the top 25 high school cross-country teams in the nation.
Thousand Oaks won the team sweepstakes race at the prestigious Mt. San Antonio College invitational last month, defeating Hart, among others.
Mead High in Spokane, Wash., and Bend (Ore.) High are the top-ranked boys’ and girls’ teams.
The Thousand Oaks High girls’ volleyball team moved from 18th to 15th in the final regular-season state coaches poll. The Lancers (18-5) picked up three places after an impressive fifth-place finish Oct. 31 in the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions.
Corona del Mar (18-0) remains the top-ranked team.
Inside linebacker Tyrone Dorsey was honored as Cal State Northridge’s co-defensive player of the week for the second consecutive week after his play in CSUN’s 35-10 loss to Portland State.
Dorsey, a senior from Inglewood High and Mt. San Antonio College, made 12 tackles to share the honor with outside linebacker Bryon Ward, a senior from Riverside who had a team-high 16 tackles, including 11 solo.
Noel Tierney, a Portland State freshman nose guard who suffered a compound fracture of his right tibia and fibula in the Vikings’ win over Northridge, was released Tuesday from Tarzana Regional Medical Center.
Tierney underwent surgery Sunday and a rod was placed in his leg.
