GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL PLAYOFF ROUNDUP : Birmingham Surprises Narbonne
Birmingham High upset defending City Section 3-A Division champion Narbonne, 16-14, 15-10, 15-4, in a girls’ first-round volleyball playoff match Tuesday at Narbonne.
Valery Vargas had 33 assists and Maricela Valdez and Robyn Kamisher each had eight kills to lead the Braves (8-6).
In other City matches:
El Camino Real d. Banning, 15-4, 15-3, 15-2--Jessica Dinaberg had 25 kills for the host Conquistadores (11-3) in a 4-A match.
Van Nuys d. Dorsey, 15-2, 15-7, 15-2--Jenna Panatier of host Van Nuys (13-1) had 11 kills in a 3-A match.
Poly d. L.A. CES, 15-2, 15-1, 15-3--Gisela Dagnino had 12 kills and Veronica Morales had 25 assists for Poly (12-1) in a 3-A match.
SOUTHERN SECTION
Agoura d. Ventura, 15-5, 15-6, 15-8--Tracy Heflin had 13 kills and 20 assists and Jenny Pavlin had 12 kills for host Agoura (9-6) in a Division I wild-card match.
Oak Park d. St. Genevieve, 15-10, 15-5, 11-15, 15-5--Gina Cusano and Angelique Helvey each had seven kills for the Eagles (12-5) in a Division IV wild-card match.
