Get Carded : If your holidays shopping list includes personalized stationery or photo greeting cards, these three vendors can help.
Want to give monogrammed stationery for Christmas? Send personalized greetings? Or give your holiday cards a twist by featuring a photo of Fido? They all take planning.
Embrey Press has one of the largest selections of greeting cards in town with more than a million to choose from. All the major greeting card companies are represented, and there’s a comfortable, pleasant space to sit and peruse the many books.
The 1992 selection features prices 20% below list, but the in stock close-outs from 1991 reflect a discount of 20% to 50%--or more. To personalize cards, Embrey charges $5 per 100 cards; 100 envelopes are $12 per 100. Allow five working days for printing.
Embrey Press, 2295 Westwood Blvd., Los Angeles. Open 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday. Cash or check only. Call (310) 475-4567. Earlier this year, Burgundy Gray was a gift and card shop in Sherman Oaks. After the birth of her third child, owner Jody Feinstein decided to close shop and now operates out of her home. She will come to your home or office with her books of card and stationery samples from the major companies--including Crane--which she offers at 20%-25% off retail.
Two seasons ago, I surprised my office staff and my children with personalized stationery from Burgundy Gray, choosing a style and colors suited to each personality, and everyone loved their present. But once again, it takes planning.

Pet lovers may want their greeting card to frame the family pet. Pets & People Photography specializes in portraits of animals with or without their owners.
I watched owners Josh and Lauren Grenrock work with two dogs and their gentleman-owner, who had been given the portrait as a gift. The Grenrocks truly have a talent for capturing the animal’s expression at just the right moment. They caught my golden retriever-lab mix, Sadie, when she looks like she is about to utter her first words.
Josh and Lauren are pet lovers and have some great shots of their dog Moses in the studio along with other portraits of pets with their owners, including a charming shot of a little boy with his giant pet turtle.
Their November photography special is $125 for a sitting and a 5-by-7 photo, which usually comes to $140.
There’s a bigger discount on their photo cards. The folding cards with the photo printed on the front are 100 for $150, or 40% off the regular $250 price.
Pets & People Photography, 4050 1/4 Laurel Canyon Blvd., Studio City. By appointment. Cash or check only. Call (818) 508-0659.
