PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Nothing Special About This Team
Coming off a game in which the Rams’ special teams surrendered one 60-yard kickoff return and one 45-yard punt return and fumbled away a kickoff, special teams coach Howard Tippett says now is not the time to radically change everything.
“You can’t get panicky over those things,” Tippett said. “You’ve just got to go back and say, ‘Hey, you’ve got to do better, you’ve got to get downfield, you’ve got to break down, you’ve got to take care of your responsibility, and you’ve got to make your play.’
“The kickoff was a result of two guys getting out of their line, and the punt was the result of one guy that’s basically not really closing down on the ballcarrier, missing the tackle.”
The Rams are yielding the third-most yards per kickoff return, 22.3, in the NFL, and the eighth-most yards per punt, 7.1.
Defensive lineman Robert Young got kicked in the lower left leg during practice Thursday, limped off the field, and was undergoing X-rays to determine the extent of the injury Thursday night. Results were not available.
