PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAIDERS : Allen Getting Little Practice

If the number of practice plays is any indication to playing time on Sunday, Marcus Allen will not get much action on the field at Philadelphia.

After Coach Art Shell announced Wednesday that Eric Dickerson and Nick Bell will split time at tailback, Allen’s role was reduced to only third-down, short-yardage and goal-line plays.

In practice since, Dickerson and Bell have handled most of the running plays. Allen has watched from the sideline.

A key to Sunday’s game will be the Raiders’ ability to pressure Eagle quarterback Jim McMahon, who is starting for the first time this season in place of Randall Cunningham.

The Raiders, who rank fourth in the NFL with 26 sacks, hope to take advantage of McMahon’s lack of mobility.

“They run the same plays with Jim in the game as they do with Randall,” Shell said. “At least with Jim, you know he’s probably going to be in the pocket more. He won’t run as much as Randall would.”

Recently acquired wide receiver-kickoff returner Alexander Wright figures to get more playing time the second half of the season.

“We are going to use (him) a little bit more than we have,” Shell said. “We want to get him more involved in our offense as a wide receiver.”

Wright, acquired from Dallas three weeks ago, has yet to catch a pass for the Raiders but has returned four kickoffs for 68 yards.
