PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE NFL : Rembert Admits Alcohol Problem
Cincinnati Bengal wide receiver Reggie Rembert said he has accepted the fact that he is an alcoholic.
Rembert publicly admitted his problem for the first time Wednesday when he returned to practice after spending 28 days at a rehabilitation center in Atlanta, undergoing NFL-ordered treatment.
“The first week I got there, I was saying, ‘I can’t be an alcoholic because I just do what everybody else does,’ ” Rembert said. “I grew up in college doing all that stuff.
“But then one of the doctors asked me, ‘Every time you drink, do you get in trouble?’ And I said, ‘Yeah, most of the time.’ And he said, ‘Well, you’re an alcoholic, Reggie.’ And I’ve been dealing with it from there.
“As long as I’m not in denial, I’ve got a chance. Once I submitted to the fact I have a problem, I was able to come out after 28 days with a clear head.”
