ROUNDUP : Casillas Repeats as the Pacific’s Top Runner
Margarito Casillas of Hoover High won his second consecutive Pacific League cross-country title and his 10th race of the season without a loss in the league finals Thursday at Crescenta Valley Park.
Casillas, the No. 2 returning runner in the nation, timed 14 minutes 57 seconds over the three-mile course to move to third on the all-time course performer list behind Jeff Nelson of Burbank (14:49 in 1978) and Bryan Dameworth of Agoura (14:50 in 1989).
Crescenta Valley placed four runners among the top seven en route to a 31-35 victory over Glendale.
GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL
Saugus d. Burroughs, 15-4, 15-11, 8-15, 11-15, 15-12--Lindsay Estes had 22 kills to lead visiting Saugus to a Mission League title-clinching win.
It was the first league championship in volleyball for Saugus (12-2, 10-2 in league play).
Montclair Prep d. Village Christian, 15-10, 15-7, 15-10--The unranked Mounties recorded their third win over a ranked team.
Kendra Dousette had 16 kills and Dana Bennish added 15 kills and six blocks as the host Mounties (13-1) beat the Crusaders, ranked eighth in Southern Section Division V.
