San Pasqual Makes 2-A Tennis Final
No. 1-seeded Torrey Pines will face third-seeded San Pasqual today in the 2-A girls’ team tennis Section Championships.
The match begins at 2:30 at Canyon Hills Country Club in Escondido.
Torrey Pines advanced easily, shutting out La Jolla in Thursday’s semifinals, 18-0. San Pasqual pulled a mild surprise by upsetting No. 2-seeded USDHS, 10-8, in the other semifinal.
For San Pasqual (18-4), Thursday’s victory brought revenge after the team lost to USDHS (16-2) earlier in the season. Molly Gavin led San Pasqual by sweeping her three singles matches.
Players who went undefeated for Torrey Pines (20-1) on Thursday were: Betsy Miringoff, Candice Donahoe, Rebecca Carson, and doubles teams Erin Bohrnstedt-Alison McNellis, Kelly McCracken-Kristen McCracken and Erin Pavelko-Melissa Esposito.
La Jolla finished 14-8.
In the 3-A semifinals, top-seeded Poway got by Grossmont, 11-7, and No. 2 Bonita Vista toppled Morse, 13-5.
The championship match will be held Saturday.
Poway (19-1) got sweeps from all three doubles teams: Missy Dulac-Lorri Sulpizio, Cami Erickson-NahokoKawakyu and Erica Frantz-Tricia Sulpizio.
Bonita Vista (18-2) got sweeps from singles players Kristen Necita and Michelle Morris.
Grossmont finished at 17-3, Morse at 13-4.
