La Canada Flintridge : Tree Recycling Firm OKd
The City Council on Monday approved an agreement with West Coast Arborists to staff the drop-off point for Christmas tree recycling after the company waived most of its fee.
At its Oct. 19 meeting council members had expressed concern over the $4,500 fee requested by the Buena Park-based firm and directed city staff to find out whether a community organization would do the job for less.
The company then lowered its charge to $1,000, saying it would eliminate its profit and hire less expensive laborers.
At no cost to residents, trees can be taken to the Caltrans parking lot near the corner of Foothill and La Canada Boulevards across the street from Memorial Park from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the weekends of Jan. 2 and 3, 9 and 10, as well Saturdays, Jan. 15 and 22.
The trees will be pulverized and used for mulch at the Scholl Canyon landfill, City Manager Gabrielle Pryor said.
