Ken Schrader took the lead seven laps from the end and held on to win the crash-filled GM Goodwrench-Delco Battery 300 at Phoenix International Raceway.

The 186-lap NASCAR Southwest Tour race was slowed by 12 caution flags and ended under a red flag after Rick Carelli, running third, one lap from the end, spun on the main straight. He slammed into the outside wall, starting a chain reaction that involved a half-dozen other cars and blocked most of the track.

Schrader averaged 75.918 m.p.h. and earned $8,515 for finishing just ahead of Darrell Waltrip.

Ron Hornaday Jr., who finished 27th in the 42-car field, wound up as the Southwest Tour champion by 14 points, 2,622-2,608, over Carelli, who was credited with ninth place.
