BIG WEST ROUNDUP : UNLV Rallies to Beat San Jose State
UNLV reserve quarterback Bob Stockham completed a five-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Demond Thompkins with 47 seconds remaining Saturday to give the Rebels a 35-31 victory over San Jose State.
Stockham came off the bench late in the second quarter to complete nine of 20 passes for 247 yards and four touchdowns for the Rebels (4-4, 2-2 in the Big West).
Despite the loss, San Jose State junior tailback Nathan DuPree set a school rushing record by gaining 286 yards in 43 carries. The previous record of 253 yards was set by Sheldon Canley two years ago against the Rebels. San Jose State fell to 5-3, 2-1.
The Spartans dominated the first half, with Joe Nedney kicking three field goals and Jeff Garcia scoring on a nine-yard run.
Weber State 23, Nevada 21--Dwight Richards rushed for 138 yards and a touchdown as the Wildcats (5-4) ended the Wolf Pack’s 21-game home winning streak at Reno.
Fred Gatlin of Nevada (5-3) threw a 15-yard scoring pass to Chris Singleton with 3:05 left, but the Wildcats stopped a two-point conversion attempt.
