Arcadia : Karaoke Moratorium OKd

Reacting to two shootings at karaoke clubs, the City Council has adopted a temporary ban on new establishments.

The 4-0 vote on Tuesday imposes a 45-day moratorium on all permits and licenses for karaoke and karaoke television, while the city prepares a plan to regulate such clubs, where patrons sing to prerecorded music. Councilman Robert C. Harbicht was absent. After it expires, the moratorium could be renewed for 10 months.

In the past year, there have been nonfatal shootings at two of the city’s five karaoke clubs, police said.
