PREP ROUNDUP : Santa Margarita Girls Remain in a First-Place Tie in Tennis
Santa Margarita remained tied for first place in the Sea View League with a 10-8 victory over Newport Harbor Tuesday at Newport Harbor.
Meagan Scanlon and Noelle Saduddin swept at No. 2 doubles, 6-2, 6-2, 7-5, for Santa Margarita (14-2, 9-1 in league). The Eagles are tied for first with Corona del Mar, which beat Saddleback, 15-3, also Tuesday. Newport Harbor is 7-3 in league and in third place.
In other Sea View League tennis:
Corona del Mar 15, Saddleback 3--Marcie Asch swept, 6-1, 6-0, 6-0, for host Corona del Mar (12-2, 9-1).
In the Century League:
El Modena 18, Santa Ana Valley 0--Freshman Amy Medlin swept at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, to improve to 20-1 in league for visiting El Modena (10-3, 7-0).
Villa Park 16, Orange 2--No. 1 singles player Ashley Thurston won, 6-0, 6-0, 6-1, for Villa Park.
In the Empire League:
Los Alamitos 18, Cypress 0--Freshman Melissa Rosenthal swept at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, to improve to 20-1 in league for visiting Los Alamitos (15-1, 7-0), ranked No. 1 in Southern Section Division III.
In the Orange League:
Valencia 9, Western 9 (Valencia wins on games, 75-68)--Valencia trailed, 9-8, when Prachi Karnik and Jessica Beason won their final set at No. 2 doubles, 6-3, to give the Tigers (4-3 in league) the victory.
In the Pacific Coast League:
Laguna Beach 15, Laguna Hills 3--Freshman Michelle Bray swept at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-4, 6-2, for Laguna Beach (14-1, 6-0).
In the South Coast League:
Dana Hills 12, Capistrano Valley 6--Anna Zaricki swept at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-0, 6-0, for host Dana Hills (12-2, 5-0).
El Toro 15, Mission Viejo 3--Kate Kunath won, 6-1, 6-1, 6-0, Janaye Johnson won, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, and Megahan Reed won, 6-4, 6-0, 6-0, for visiting El Toro (10-5, 4-1).
In the Sunset League:
Fountain Valley 13, Ocean View 5--Anh Dang swept at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-0, 6-0, for Fountain Valley (8-6, 7-3).
Rosary 10, Marina 8--Bonnie Neri and Erin Dinunzio won their final set at No. 1 doubles, 6-2, to clinch the victory for host Rosary (10-6, 7-3).
In nonleague water polo:
Corona del Mar 21, Downey 3--Crosby Grant scored seven goals for host Corona del Mar (12-6), the fourth-ranked team in Orange County.
Costa Mesa 18, Brea-Olinda 5--J.R. Porter and teammate Sam Grayeli each scored five goals for visiting Costa Mesa (14-8).
