COLLEGE ROUNDUP : UCI Water Polo Extends Streak to Six in Row
Continuing a midseason streak, UC Irvine, ranked fifth in the nation in water polo, defeated No. 6 UCLA, 9-6, in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match Tuesday at Sunset Canyon Pool in Westwood.
Kevin Leinbach, a senior from Tustin High, scored three goals for the Anteaters (9-6), who have won six in a row and seven of their past eight matches.
UCLA’s Scott Turner scored his second goal with 1 minute 17 seconds left to narrow the Anteaters’ lead to 7-6. Leinbach then secured the victory for Irvine, scoring the final goals of the match at the 1:01 and 14-second marks. Teammates Marc Hunt and Pablo Yrizar each had two goals.
UC Irvine goalkeeper Mike Rall had 10 saves. Kevin Dillenbeck had nine saves for the Bruins (5-5).
In nonconference men’s soccer:
Southern California College 4, Point Loma Nazarene 2--Chris Chaparro scored three goals for the visiting Vanguards (8-5-1, 2-1-1).
In nonconference women’s volleyball:
Cal State Northridge 3, Cal State Fullerton 0--Debbie Bueche had seven kills for host Northridge (15-6), which won, 15-4, 15-3, 15-12. Lisa Parbst had seven kills for the Titans (0-13).
