Chris Oeding, formerly of Corona del Mar High, scored the game-winning goal as California defeated UC Irvine, 6-5, in a nonconference water polo match at Berkeley.
Oeding scored the winning goal with 4:23 remaining. Irvine had two man-advantage situations in the final four minutes but failed to score.
Steve Gill and Mark Stevenson each scored two goals for Irvine (3-6), ranked fifth in the nation. It was the third time Irvine has lost to California this season. California has won by a total of four goals.
