Angels Shine in 6-3 Win : Baseball: Langston strikes out a season-high 13 and rookie Williams has four hits in victory over Rangers.

With the Angels and Texas Rangers playing out the schedule--neither with much distinction in a five-error performance--Mark Langston and Reggie Williams managed to add bits of interest to an otherwise tedious game.

Langston had a personal season-high of 13 strikeouts and Williams, a 26-year-old rookie outfielder, had four hits as the Angels scored a 6-3 victory Friday night at Anaheim Stadium.

The crowd of 18,526 increased the Angels’ season attendance to 2,013,688, the 11th consecutive season they have drawn more than 2 million fans.

Langston (13-14) ended his three-game losing streak with his five-hit complete game of the season.

Still, he slipped from his 19-8 performance of last season, when he combined with Chuck Finley (18-9) and Jim Abbott (18-11) to win 55 games. This season, the three finished with 27 victories. Langston pitched nine complete games, losing five of them.

“I’m very disappointed, obviously, with the way things turned out for us,” Langston said. “Hopefully, next year the slate will be clean and we’ll be able to do some positive things.”

Williams had three bunt singles and a triple in his first multi-hit game and the fifth four-hit game by an Angel this season. Chad Curtis drove in two runs against Ranger starter Scott Chiamparino and Gary Gaetti and pinch-hitter Hubie Brooks each drove in one.

Williams, starting in center field while Luis Polonia sat out the final game of his three-game suspension and Tim Salmon rested his sprained left wrist, led off by beating out a bunt. Curtis moved him to third on a hit-and-run single to right, and Williams scored when Chiamparino’s pick-off throw to first got past Rafael Palmeiro. Curtis took second on the play.

Ken Oberkfell then walked, but Gary Gaetti bounced into a double play begun by shortstop Cris Colon. Curtis took third and scored when Chiamparino fumbled Junior Felix’s soft bouncer toward the mound.
