Eddie Hill of Wichita Falls, Tex., was the top qualifier for today’s top fuel final at the 38th NHRA U.S. Nationals at Indianapolis Raceway. Hill had a track-record time of 4.824 seconds and a speed of 287.17 m.p.h.
Kenny Bernstein of Dallas was second with a time 4.860 and a speed at 301.20, second fastest in history. Bernstein is the only driver to surpass the 300-m.p.h. mark, and he has done it three times.
John Force of Yorba Linda was the top qualifier in the funny car class, and Scott Geoffrion of Huntington Beach headed the pro stock qualifiers.
