OUTLOOK: When a team loses most of its firepower to graduation and the well is not overflowing with replacements, there’s little for the coaching staff to do but plan for the future. That’s where Taube and the Lancers find themselves this season. “Essentially, we’ve approached this year as building from scratch,” Taube said. “We think we have raw talent. It’s going to take a little time to put it all together.” Two years ago, the Lancers finished tied for second in the Olympic League. They dropped to the bottom last season and things don’t look much more promising this year. Taube said the team will rely on Glessner and Vieselmeyer for leadership. “We lost our (defensive) mainstay in J.P. Presley (all-league lineman now at Azusa Pacific),” Taube said. “We are looking at Vieselmeyer to be the mainstay. We’ve moved him from outside linebacker to the inside.” Timothy, up from the JV squad, will try to replace all-league quarterback Lenny Gavin (795 yards passing). “Timothy is a little green but he’s getting better every day,” Taube said.
