Morceli Sets World Record in 1,500 Meters

Noureddine Morceli of Algeria, one of the big disappointments at the Barcelona Olympics, broke the world record for 1,500 meters Sunday with a time of 3:28.86 at an international track and field meet at Rieti, Italy.
Morceli’s time broke the record of 3:29.46, set by Said Aouita of Morocco in 1985.
Morceli, 22, finished seventh in the Olympic final after winning the 1991 world championship.
