Israeli Soldiers Reportedly Attack Palestinian TV Cameraman in Gaza
JERUSALEM — Israeli soldiers attacked a Palestinian television cameraman filming a demonstration in the occupied Gaza Strip on Sunday, his producer said.
Soldiers struck Marwan Ghoul, a cameraman for the international television news agency Visnews, in the stomach with rifle butts, Visnews producer Gil Omer said.
Omer said the soldiers told Ghoul, 30, that they had warned him before against causing trouble by filming stone-throwing Palestinians.
The soldiers destroyed his camera.
Visnews filed a complaint with the Israeli army shortly after the incident.
Omer said that Ghoul, who has worked part time at Visnews for two years, had been threatened by the army before but had never been assaulted.
Ghoul was spending the night at a Gaza hospital where he was being treated for chest and stomach injuries, Omer added.
