Silent No More: An “overwhelming” number of calls jammed telephone lines following Friday night’s three-network joint broadcast of “Scared Silent: Exposing and Ending Child Abuse.” Arnold Shapiro, producer of the vivid hourlong documentary, said Sunday it will be several days before the total number of calls to an 800 number displayed during the show will be tallied. While he felt “great” that so many people “reached out because of the program,” Shapiro noted: “I’m also sad because the sheer volume of calls shows how widespread this problem is.” CBS, NBC and PBS aired the program Friday; ABC was scheduled to show it Sunday.
