Your First Person article by Joanne Harrison (“The Gift That L.B.J. Gave to Me,” Aug. 25) captured the essence of what government assistance . . . can mean.
This article was a testament that President Lyndon Johnson’s War on Poverty saved at least one life.
The Reagan-Bush years will not have such stories.
