He’s Still Standing
A standing ovation to Hilburn for his superbly well-crafted story about Elton John.
Hilburn’s prose and presentation were exceptional. More important, the writer and his words allowed the reader to feel and to be moved by John’s many hard-won battles. It is on this emotional level that Hilburn’s skill shines mostly brightly.
As for John himself, I do not think that anyone who has fought to overcome eating disorders, addictions or the stigma that this society places upon homosexuality can remain untouched by what the entertainer has gone through and achieved. John may very well find himself as a role model for those who are trudging along those same lonely paths. He too deserves a standing ovation for survival. Bravo, Elton John!
