A Heady Experience

Blame it on the “Bald Eagles,” the U.S. Olympic volleyball players who shaved their heads for the games, or rock stars Sinead O’Connor and George Michael, but more young people seem to be wearing their heads shaved.

George Jackson blames the weather. “It’s been so hot, hair just made me hotter,” says Jackson.

Puppy Thomas gets weekly $8 “shaves” at Bill’s Barber Shop near Pico and Robertson boulevards. “I’m a comedian and I thought this would go along with my act,” he says.

Sherif Mikhail has worn his hair shaved to one degree or another for two years. “I just like to keep changing,” he says. “Now I have three levels of hair.”

“I just like the way it looks,” says movie propmaster John Bullard, who also sports long sideburns.

Simona Ennas, who owns Campo di Fiori flower shop, in West Hollywood, shaved off her hair for the first time two years ago.

“It’s liberating,” she says. Maintenance consists of a monthly head shave at Doyle Wilson in West Hollywood, a daily wash and a dab of sunscreen for her scalp. Now, Ennas says, she feels the wind, rain and sun.
