*OUTLOOK
Running back Dave Webber rushed for 2,048 yards and averaged nearly 200 yards a game in the playoffs last season, leading the Hawks to the Southern Section Division VII championship. But Webber has graduated, and this year Kim and Cisca will share his duties at running back as well as return to their starting defensive positions. The Hawks, ranked second in the Division VIII preseason poll, traditionally have strong linemen, but this year’s group is young and inexperienced. Vedder, who transferred from Mater Dei after his freshman season, earned the starting quarterback job after Mike Maceranka injured his collarbone at midseason. Vedder started slowly but developed into a consistent passer and strong leader by the end of the year. The Hawks’ biggest regular-season game of the year will be on Oct. 16 against Trabuco Hills.
