PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE NFL : Rison Signs Extension With Falcons

Two-time Pro Bowl receiver Andre Rison reported to the Atlanta Falcons after signing a one-year extension to his contract.

Terms were not announced, but the Falcons reportedly were offering Rison $700,000 for a third season.

Rison did not practice but said he is ready to play Sunday against the New York Jets.

Wide receiver Michael Irvin and the Dallas Cowboys agreed to a three-year contract late Thursday night, although financial figures were not released.

“We are very happy and very comfortable with what we were able to work out tonight,” said owner Jerry Jones.

Jones had earlier said he had given Irvin his final offer at $1.25 million per year. Irvin, an All-Pro, said he would not sign for less than $1.4 million.

Irvin will report to practice today and is expected to play in the Cowboys’ season opener Monday night against the Washington Redskins.

Cowboy center Mark Stepnoski, who is seeking $750,000 per season for two years, remains unsigned. Dallas has offered $650,000 for three.

Miami linebacker David Griggs, the Dolphins’ last unsigned player, agreed to a two-year contract for an estimated $750,000 per season.

Denver enters Sunday’s home game against the Raiders with a depth problem at receiver that got so severe during Wednesday’s practice that quarterback John Elway was running pass routes.

“We ran out of guys,” Elway said. “The thing I’m worried about now is who’s going to catch it. Everybody’s getting hurt.”
