Pop Album Chart : Cyrus Keeps a Clamp on Top Spot
Billy Ray Cyrus has withstood his toughest challenge yet--strong new releases by Bobby Brown, Garth Brooks and Eric Clapton--to hold on to the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s pop album chart for the 14th straight week. But Mr. Achy Breaky’s run may soon be over, as Brown’s “Bobby,” seems likely to top the chart next week. Brooks’ “Beyond the Season” is less likely to go that high, if only because it’s a Christmas album. The week’s top mover is the soundtrack to the film “Honeymoon in Vegas,” with Elvis Presley songs done by such pop and country stars as Billy Joel and Ricky Van Shelton, jumping to No. 40. Boyz II Men’s “End of the Road” (from the movie “Boomerang”) remains the No. 1 pop and R&B; single.
* Warrant’s new album got overshadowed by Brown, Clapton and Brooks, but its No. 25 debut makes the Los Angeles pop-metal band a solid Top 10 candidate.
