Far, Far Away
Although the recent violence in Los Angeles was terrible and heartbreaking, one interesting anecdote relating to travel did occur. A news story told of a British businessman calling his contacts in San Diego, asking if he should cancel his trip to that city because of the L.A. riots. Most Californians probably got a chuckle regarding this gentleman’s ignorance of our geography. Yet when the average American traveler hears of the slightest trouble in any part of a place like Africa, he often cancels his travel plans, not bothering to find out that Africa is 3 1/2 times the size of America and the isolated incident is far from his destination.
