Third Wave Economy
I was stunned by the Tofflers’ pronouncement that “A Third Wave economy does not have enough routine factory jobs for the Rodney Kings of this world.” It is, we are told, “Second Wave smokestack societies based on repetitive, mindless labor, that need (such) workers.” Have the Tofflers ever spoken to Rodney King or any of the (what in the world might they mean?) “Rodney Kings of this world”? Why should I assume King couldn’t perform anything but “mindless labor”? I have only heard Rodney King once, on television, and he made as much sense as anyone else I’ve heard on TV recently. For all the Tofflers know, King could hold down a Third Wave job quite nicely, thank you--if only one were available.
