Life in Leisure World: Another Dimension Is Explored

Shame on the management of Villa Valencia and the Marriott Corp. for allowing the residents of their independent living section to bar walkers and wheelchairs from their lobby.

I did not imagine that this type of illegal discrimination still existed anywhere in Orange County.

Requiring residents who rely on walkers and wheelchairs to use a separate entrance reminds me of the old days when there was a ladies entrance at exclusive men’s clubs. The smarter men were always seen around the ladies entrance.

I hope there are some wiser ambulatory residents also using the separate entrance at Villa Valencia.

Could this Villa Valencia discrimination be based on another weird application of the discredited “separate but equal” theory? Do they have an equally ornate lobby for the disabled?

When are we really going to grow up?
