James Toney, the International Boxing Federation middleweight champion, was sentenced to six months’ probation on an assault charge in Ypsilanti, Mich. Toney also was ordered to perform 40 hours of community service and pay $400 in fines and court costs.
Toney pleaded no contest March 17 to the misdemeanor count, filed after he allegedly pointed a toy gun at a female acquaintance in October, 1990.
