KING CASE AFTERMATH: READERS RESPOND : Ashamed of Being White
This case did indeed have racial overtones.
The district attorney’s office needs to re-examine itself as to how vigorously and competently it prosecutes these cases and the racial mix on the juries it will allow to be seated.
I am a white middle-class female. Given the strength of my reactions to the verdict, I cannot begin to fathom how citizens of a racial or ethnic minority must feel.
Their feelings of despair, frustration, rage and hopelessness must be complete and total.
I cannot feel satisfaction or relief in being white, only shame.
