Saving the Environment

None of the letters (April 28) critical of Tom Bethell’s April 19 column on the environmental summit seemed to disagree with his facts and figures. Is it true that we rich, industrialized nations of the world should contribute $600 billion per year to help the 120 poor nations develop in an “environmentally safe” manner? And should the U.S. foreign aid also be increased to five times its present amount?

How many rich, industrialized nations are there to bear this burden, other than Europe, Japan and the U.S.? Strange that we still feel so rich in the middle of a recession and after paying taxes!
