IBM to Sell ROLM Unit: International Business Machines Corp. said it will sell the rest of its ROLM telecommunications equipment unit to electronics maker Siemens of Germany. IBM and Siemens’ U.S. subsidiary, which have operated ROLM in a joint venture since 1989, would not disclose the price. Analysts said the move will provide IBM with needed cash and advance its new strategy of jettisoning money-losing parts of the vast company to boost the bottom line. IBM will continue its marketing and development relationship with ROLM, which will be headquartered in San Jose.
