China’s top banking official said overseas banks will be allowed to open branches for the first time in the cities of Guangzhou, Tianjin and Dalian. . . . General Tire Inc. said it will reduce its salaried work force in the United States by about 100 workers by the end of 1992. General Tire has about 3,000 salaried employees in the United States. . . . The Investment Co. Institute reported that the assets of the nation’s 593 money market mutual funds fell $1.36 billion to $496.21 billion in the seven-day period ended May 6.
