PACIFIC 10 ROUNDUP : Stanford Free Throws Sink Washington State, 85-70
Adam Keefe scored 33 points and Stanford made 27 of 33 free throws as the Cardinal took advantage of foul-prone Washington State for an 85-70 victory Sunday at Palo Alto.
Three Washington State, including two starters, fouled out in the second half, when Keefe scored 18 of his points and roamed freely near the basket.
The Cardinal (16-8, 8-6 Pacific 10 Conference) increased a seven-point halftime lead to 12 when Marcus Lollie sank a 3-point shot with 12:34 remaining.
Washington State (19-9, 7-8) cut Stanford’s lead to 63-57 when Neil Derrick made a pair of free throws. The Cougars could get no closer and Cardinal’s final margin proved to be its biggest lead.
Arizona St. 58, Oregon 48--Stevin Smith scored 11 of his 15 points in the second half as Arizona State rallied from a 10-point deficit at Eugene, Ore.
Antoine Stoudamire led all scorers with 22 points for Oregon (6-18, 2-13).
Stoudamire’s two free throws gave the Ducks a 35-25 lead with 12:59 to play. Arizona State (16-11, 7-7) then outscored Oregon, 33-13, the rest of the way.
The Sun Devils overcame a 13-for-22 performance at the free-throw line, 16 turnovers and the absence of sophomore forward Jamal Faulkner, who averages 14 points a game but was kept out of the game because of a curfew violation.
