Dissident to Run Against UAW Chief: The leader of a United Auto Workers dissident group formally announced that he will challenge President Owen Bieber in Bieber’s last reelection bid. Although Jerry Tucker is given little chance, his rare opposition to an incumbent president could turn into a magnet for UAW members dissatisfied with the union’s direction under nine years of Bieber leadership. Under Bieber’s tenure, membership has dropped and the union has gone through tough bargaining with auto makers. Tucker contends that the union has gotten too cozy with management.
