Hyundai Recalls 895,000 Cars: Hyundai Motor Co. recalled all 1986-89 Excels and 1987-89 Mitsubishi Precis for a problem that could melt air filters and lead to engine fires, company officials said. The recall affects about 837,000 Excel and 58,000 Precis models. Hyundai initiated the recall after it found that deteriorated parts could cause exhaust gases to melt the air filter. The smoldering plastic could cause an engine compartment fire, though company officials said no accidents have been reported. Car owners will be notified by letter.
