Abigail S. Davis; 104-Year-Old Ex-Teacher

Abigail S. Davis, who taught at John Muir Elementary School in Glendale for more than 20 years, has died at a Glendale retirement home. She was 104.

Mrs. Davis died Monday of complications of her advanced age, said her daughter, Abigail Abner of Glendale.

Born Abigail Switzer in Fennimore, Wis., she graduated from the University of Minnesota and worked as a high school principal and math and science teacher in Canby, Minn., before moving to Glendale in 1924. She began teaching at John Muir Elementary School when it opened in 1927 and taught there until her retirement in 1950.

Mrs. Davis was a member of the Retired Teachers Assn. and the First United Methodist Church of Glendale, and volunteered with the American Red Cross in Glendale. She also had been a Camp Fire Girls leader in Minnesota.

In addition to her daughter, Mrs. Davis is survived by six nephews and one niece. Her husband, George Davis, died in 1941.

Services will be private. Kiefer & Eyerick Mortuary in Glendale is handling the arrangements.
