GM to Recall 196,000 Cars: General Motors Corp. said it will recall about 196,000 Chevrolet Camaros and Pontiac Firebirds built between 1982 and 1986 and Pontiac Fieros made in 1984, 1985 and 1986 because of problems with the vehicles’ parking brakes. Only cars equipped with manual transmissions and rear disc brakes are affected. A faulty adjuster in the rear disc brake assembly may prevent the parking brake from holding the car on an incline if the vehicle is parked with the manual transmission in neutral or a gear other than reverse. GM is sending letters to owners that their cars will be recalled shortly and redesigned parking brake adjusters installed.
