BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP : Winners’ 18 Kills Help Make a Winner of Marina, With a Sweep of Ocean View
Dennis Winners had 18 kills and Marina defeated Ocean View Wednesday in a three-game Sunset League boys’ volleyball match at Ocean View.
John Mull had 12 kills and Greg Gratteau had 42 assists for the Vikings (10-3, 7-2), who won, 15-9, 15-11, 15-8.
In another Sunset League match:
Huntington Beach 3, Santa Ana 0--Claude Doumerc had five kills for host Huntington Beach (13-1, 9-0), which won, 15-5, 15-4, 15-3.
In the Empire League:
Cypress 3, El Dorado 2--B.J. Ewen had 16 kills, Scott Jefferson had 13 kills and Richard Pilawski had 10 kills and nine blocks for host Cypress (7-7, 2-4), which won, 10-15, 15-2, 15-12, 12-15, 15-7.
Foothill 3, Los Alamitos 1--Chris Lesueur had 12 kills and five blocks for visiting Foothill (8-6, 5-1), which won, 15-6, 15-7, 10-15, 15-11.
In the Garden Grove League:
Santiago 3, Rancho Alamitos 0--Santiago (10-5, 7-4) won, 15-13, 15-9, 15-12. Teofil Tifrea had 13 kills, four blocked shots and six digs in a losing effort for Rancho Alamitos (7-10, 3-8).
Garden Grove 3, Bolsa Grande 0--Ryan Cook had 11 kills and Seth Hall had six kills and five aces for visiting Garden Grove (13-2, 11-0), which won, 15-5, 15-13, 15-8.
La Quinta 3, Kennedy 0--Sam Barbee had 12 kills and Chris Siok had 10 kills as visiting La Quinta (6-6, 5-6) won, 15-12, 15-7, 15-9.
In the Orange League:
El Modena 3, Canyon 0--Aaron Aguilera had 10 kills for visiting El Modena (7-6, 5-2), which won, 15-5, 16-14, 15-11.
Valencia 3, Western 1--Doug Finnell had 58 assists, Lyle Castillo had 20 kills and Dan Melia had 19 kills and seven blocks for host Valencia (13-0, 7-0), which won, 16-14, 15-10, 15-17, 15-11.
Villa Park 3, Anaheim 0--Craig Smith had 13 kills and Vartan Ouzounian had 27 assists and nine kills for host Villa Park (5-7, 3-4), which won, 15-4, 15-8, 15-13.
In the Pacific Coast League:
Trabuco Hills 3, Laguna Hills 0--Jeremy Harris had six kills, seven aces and three blocks for visiting Trabuco Hills (6-5, 5-2), which won, 15-11, 15-5, 15-5.
In nonleague play:
Esperanza 3, Servite 0--Brad Goldston had 11 kills and Brandon Wattier had nine kills for visiting Esperanza (12-0), which won, 15-0, 15-2, 15-11.
